Narayanganj
is an important city, considering its commercial and industrial growth, its
port facility, any planning should have projection of future traffic in the
city. Using the LRT electric trains around one lac 20 thousand passengers will
be able to travel every day on these routes. This LRT rail route in Narayangonj
city will set up a framework for how the City will respond to its future transportation
needs.
The
LRT - Light Rail Transit is a form of urban rail transit using rolling stock
similar to a tramway, but operating at a higher capacity, and often on an
exclusive right-of-way. The electric rail mass transit – provides an
exceptionally clean, energy-efficient form of mobility. The transport system
moves passengers quickly from place to place on a permanent rail track. Also
called a fast tram service, these modes of transportation can be a single car
or multiple cars coupled together.
The
LRT contributes to the City’s vitality by ensuring accessibility for everyone,
links to a great number of destinations and integration with other modes of
transportation. LRT expansion helps ensure a transportation system that
provides mobility and choice for everyone, every day. Bringing LRT to all
sectors of the city, making transit an accessible, easy choice for all.

The
Rapid KL is a public transportation system built by Prasarana Malaysia which is
very much popular in the country. The Rapid Rail currently operates five rail
lines comprising the Ampang, Sri Petaling, Kelana Jaya, KL Monorail and MRT
Sungai Buloh-Kajang Lines. This rapid transit system was known as "Rapid
KL" operates on standard gauge.
After
the meeting the additional secretary of the Cabinet Division Mosammat Nasima
Begum said that "Light Rapid Transit is a public transport system.
Passengers will be transported from one place to another through electric
trains." She also informed that 388 cities in the world are using this popular
rapid rail transit system. After getting approval from the cabinet committee
the feasibility study will be done to find out the possibility of verification
of the proposal of introduction of electric train. Will see what will be the
cost, who will work, will be final at the time of probability verification.
The
routes will be total 23 kilometers long. One of the route lengths will be 11
kilometers which will start from Nitaiganj - Chashara - Signboard area near Dhaka-Chattogram
highway. And another route will be around 12 kilometers long from Panchabati – Chashara
- Chittagong Road. Both the routs will intersect at Chashara area. There is a
framework agreement between the government of Bangladesh and Singapore to work
on the basis of G2G. Singapore will work in different sectors including
transport, tourism.
Earlier
the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) has taken an initiative to construct a
light rapid transit (LRT) system as a remedy to the city's traffic congestion,
although there is no mention of any such service in the Strategic Transport
Plan (STP). The NCC has already sent a proposal to construct LRT rail track to
Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) and shared the plan in this
regard for its approval. NCC, without conducting any study on viability of the
LRT, has proposed to set up the line in two corridors and in elevated way.
