Up gradation
of existing Dhaka-Sylhet highway into Six-lane work will start in next fiscal
year. Before that survey and land acquisition will be completed.
There is a
plan to build flyovers to preserve the old traditional markets located beside
this national highway. Road traffic and highway department secretary Nazrul
Islam said that after the public hearing activities at Rai Nagar, BRTA in
Sylhet.
Secretary
Nazrul Islam said that the survey to promote the Sylhet-Dhaka highway has
changed a lot. Now there will be two more service lane in both side of the
highway and the highway will be of total 6 lanes.
In view of the
workers movement for the introduction of BRTC bus on Sylhet-Sunamganj road, the
secretary said that the passengers were not getting good facilities from the
private transports, so they are demanding government owned BRTC bus service.
BRTC bus was
introduced on Sylhet-Sunamganj road in view of passenger general demand. There
is no scope or logic to stop it. The number of buses will be increase if the
passengers demand more.
The secretary
said that the list of occupants will be made in the places where the place of
the occupants is occupied. There will not be an inch of land in the possession
of anyone. The occupants will be evicted and the site will be recovered.
Sylhet City
Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and other officials of Sylhet division, senior
officials of BRTA and BRTC were also present in the public hearing.
Thanks.
