The construction work of the Dhaka airport third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka is going on at high-speed ignoring the rainy weather of Corona epidemic. Bangladesh will change in this dazzling mega project. By June 2022, around 42 percent of the project has been completed. The third terminal with its unique in architectural style, will be inaugurated in October 2023.

The government wants to make a splash by inaugurating this mega project before the next parliamentary elections. With the launch of the Dhaka airport Third Terminal, Bangladesh's prestige and importance will increase internationally. The project participants are hoping that the work of this project, which is 3 percent ahead of the construction target, will be completed ahead of time. In this regard, the chairman of the Civil Aviation, Air Vice Marshal. Mofidur Rahman told Newspapers, ‘Airport is the mirror of any country. When a tourist comes to a country, he first evaluates the country by looking at the airport. If the airport is modern, the image of the country seems to be developed. Bangladesh is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The inauguration of the third terminal will add another feather to the country's progresses’.

The Padma Bridge is pride of Bangladesh. The Dhaka airport Third Terminal will further enhance our dignity. So far 42 percent of the work of this project has been completed. Work is ahead of target. Work will move forward faster this year. The structure of the terminal building has been completed and various additions to the interior works are underway. The Third Terminal Structurally will be inaugurated in October next year after completing the work as per the target. It could take up to the middle of next year to make the entire airport functional by connecting all the equipment and accessories. There is a lot of work to be done to make functioning an airport. The construction of the Dhaka airport third terminal was a promise made by the Prime Minister to the people, and we are working hard to fulfill it. '

A tour of the Dhaka airport Third Terminal project area reveals that more than 3,000 pillars of the terminal were erected last year. Now the infrastructure of the terminal is being built on these. Due to this, the progress of the project can be seen from the road adjacent to the airport. Sitting on the pillars is a designed black steel sheet. The Third Terminal building is standing on its own two feet with the help of sophisticated equipment and workers.

When the third terminal will be inaugurated, many planes will come to the runway at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. There is one runway at the airport. Construction of two additional high-speed taxiways has been undertaken to reduce the durability of the aircraft on the runway and enable it to park faster. The plan was to complete the work by June. But the work was completed in the first week of May, project officials said.

Work is going on for 16 hours a day in two shifts of eight hours to complete the project before the scheduled time. Various initiatives have been taken to protect workers from the Corona epidemic. Arrangements have been made for the workers to stay in the project area. Although some workers were affected, they have returned to work after recovering from regular treatment. As a result, there was no interruption in the work. Although many projects have been delayed in the hands of Corona, the work of this mega project is ahead of the target.

The Dhaka airport third terminal project is being jointly implemented by Japanese manufacturer Simuji and Korean company Samsung. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the two terminals at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport currently have a passenger capacity of about 7 million a year. If the third terminal is built, this number will be close to 20 milion. In this terminal of five lac forty two thousand square meters, aprons (space for parking planes) are being constructed to hold 37 planes simultaneously. The terminal building will be 2 lakh 30 thousand square meters. Inside the building there will be touches of all the significant and sophisticated technologies of the world. The terminal under construction will be fitted with several straight escalators. This arrangement is for those who cannot walk long distances inside the airport. These escalators are widely used in the world's most sophisticated airports, including Singapore and Bangkok. This will give passengers a quiet and smooth ride experience.

Metrorail will be connected to the Dhaka airport third terminal. A separate station will also be built. Through this, passengers coming to Bangladesh will be able to go to their destination by metro rail without leaving the airport. There will be a baby care lounge in front of each washroom in the terminal. Inside the lounge will be the mothers' breastfeeding booth, a large family bathroom. In addition, there will be various arrangements for children to play, including slippers and swings. There will be health inspection facilities, first-aid rooms for first aid, various disease testing centers and isolation areas.

According to project sources, the cost of the project is Tk 21,399 crore. The government will provide 5,258 crore rupees for the total expenditure and JICA will provide 16,141 crore rupees as a loan. The design of the Dhaka airport third terminal has a sufficient number of accelerators, substations and lifts attached. There will be radar, control tower, operation building, multi-storey car park. The three-storey terminal building will bring a unique aesthetic to the architecture. The exterior will have a dazzling design.

Thanks,

Padma Bridge Progress | Construction Work Latest Update

The installation of concrete slabs on the road of Padma Bridge will be completed in September 2021. Then this dream bridge can be crossed on foot if you want! Railway work has also progressed a lot. Construction work to build a rail link from the ground to the bridge could be completed by next December. Then the bridge can be crossed by walking along the railway. Considering the progress of the overall work of the Padma Bridge till 1st June, the bridge department hopes that if all the works go well, the bridge can be opened for vehicle in June 2022. There is also a target to start the train on the same day.

However, there is some uncertainty about the launch of the train. The Ministry of Railways says a pillar of the flyover (viaduct) outside the bridge is being demolished due to design complications. Due to this, the work of making rail-line connection with the bridge has been delayed. The work of laying the railway line outside the part of the bridge has not started.

On December 10, the main bridge was erected by attaching the last or 41st steel span of the Padma Bridge. This created a direct connection between Zazira of Shariatpur and Mawa of Munshiganj. Vehicles will pass over the two-storey Padma Bridge and trains will pass through. Rail and road are now being constructed with concrete slab pairs for bridge crossings. As of June 1, the work of laying vehicle and railway slabs has been completed by 89 per cent and 95 per cent respectively. According to the progress report of the project, the work of the main bridge has progressed 93.50 percent till June 1. The overall progress of the project is 86%.

Project Director Shafiqul Islam said, if there is no major problem or rains and floods, the work of laying road and railway slabs will be completed in the upcoming September. Then anyone can cross the bridge on foot if you want. There were some problems with the Corona situation and river erosion last year. Now it is over, he hoped that the Padma Bridge would be inaugurated next June. However, being able to cross the bridge on foot does not mean it will be open for human movement.

According to the progress report of the project, 2,917 concrete slabs are to be laid on the main bridge to make way for vehicles. 2,604 have been installed till June 1. A two-millimeter layer of water insulation, known as a waterproof membrane, will then be placed over the slab. It's a lot like a plastic cover. Then a few layers of pitch will be poured with stone, cement and bitumen. Its thickness is about 100 millimeters.

In addition, walls and road dividers should be provided on both sides of the road, which is known as parapet wall. If 12,390 concrete slabs are added, the walls will be completed. More than 10,500 parapet wall slabs have been installed. The remaining slabs of the parapet wall have also been made. The Padma Bridge will have street lights like other bridges. However, additional architectural lighting will be installed on the entire bridge. With it, the bridge can be illuminated in different colors on Special Day or any big occasion. Large installations, including the Burj Al Khalifa Tower in Dubai, have such lighting.

The main bridge over the river is made of steel structure (span) over the pillars. Its length is 6.15 kilometers. Outside, the main bridge is being connected to the ground by a sloping runway at both ends. The length of this flyover known as viaduct which is 3.68 km. In all, the total length of the bridge stands at 9.83 km. The viaduct is made with a pair of concrete slabs. At the Jajira end putting slabs together has done. There are only six slabs left in Mawa end. It will be completed by the middle of June.

Railway work progress:

Under the Padma Bridge project, the bridge department is constructing a railway on the main bridge and 532 meter flyover at both ends of the bridge. According to the bridge department, 2,959 concrete slabs are to be laid on the bridge to build the railway. Of these, 2,815 have been installed. Apart from this, the Ministry of Railways is responsible for constructing additional flyovers up to the ground, laying railway lines and operating trains. Railway is implementing a project worth around Tk 40,000 crore in this regard. Under this, construction work of 172 km broad gauge railway from Dhaka to Jessore is underway. The duration of the project is till 2024.

The work of the whole rail project has been divided into three phases. These are: construction of railway from Dhaka to Mawa, from Mawa to Bhanga and from Bhanga to Jessore. On the day of the inauguration of the bridge, the railway has decided to start train service from Mawa to Bhanga in Faridpur via Padma Bridge. The distance of this part is 42 km, the work has 77 percent done.

Now the work of laying the railway line and the station has to be completed. As per information, it will take six months to lay the 6.15 km long railway line over the bridge. The director of the Padma Rail Link project also sent a letter regarding this issue to the director of the bridge project in January. If the bridge is launched in June, the scheduled route will have to be completed at the beginning of January. More work remains to be done, including laying a gas pipeline next to the railway. Two separate companies for rail and bridge and two contractors cannot work together.

There are challenges in Padma River:

Last year's floods caused some complications after the Mawa construction site was submerged in the riverbed. Project officials say the preparations that have been made this time have reduced the risk of erosion inside the project area. However, the nature of the Padma River is complex. According to the bridge department, in the last flood, after digging in an area of about one kilometer at the edge of Mawa, additional silt of about 20 meters has accumulated. There will have to be re-excavation. Besides, the work of river governance is still lagging behind the main bridge. The total progress of the work is 83.50 percent.

Expenditure on Padma Bridge:

The Padma Bridge project is being implemented by the Bridges Division under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. When the Padma Bridge project was approved by ECNEC in 2007, its cost was Tk 10,161 crore. Later the cost increased by three phases. So far, the total cost of the Padma Bridge estimated at Tk 30,193 crore. The deadline for completion of the project is set to be completed next June. In the next one year, if there is any defect in the bridge, the contractor will repair it and if there is any debt of the contractor, it will also be settled by the department.

Expert says, there is no big technical challenge on the Padma Bridge now and there is not financial problem. The construction of the bridge has taken more time. As a result, the sooner the bridge can be opened, the more people will get the benefits. This Padma Bridge Project is not just a necessity; it is a project to transform the economy of the whole country. It has become a huge investment, including the construction of expressways around it. So to take advantage of it, the bridge needs to be started quickly.

Thanks,

The much-awaited country’ first 55-km-long Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway has been inaugurated on Thursday, 12 March 2020. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the expressway through a video conference from Ganabhaban on that day.

The expressway will reach to Bhanga of Faridpur from the Mayor Hanif flyover of Dhaka over the Padma Bridge over Munsiganj district. The expressway has separate lanes for different vehicles, flyovers to avoid crossing, underpass and other modern traffic systems and facilities. It will take only around 42 minutes to pass this 55 km long expressway, which is really a dream at this time.

This expressway designed with all the facilities of a modern express highway to ensure that the people can fully utilize the Padma Bridge, once it is constructed. With the launch of the Padma Bridge, this reality will happen. However, the people of South Bengal are getting the benefits right now. Because the 35 km route from Hanif flyover to Mawa will now take only 27 minutes.

Travel to Dhaka from Mawa will take less than an hour once the Padma Bridge construction is completed. Two parts of the expressway will be connected through the Padma Bridge. Recently, the 26th span was installed on the bridge and now it is visible for around four-kilometers long.

The construction of the Dhaka-Faridpur Bhanga 55km expressway began on July 2016 and was expected to finish by June 2019. In all, the project constructed at a cost of more than BD Taka 11 thousand. The whole expressway has been split into two sections due to the construction of Padma River Bridge. One part of this is from Jatrabari Mayor Hanif flyover, Dhaka to Mawa which 35 KM Long and the other part is from Pacchor to Bhanga, Faridpur which is 20 KM long. This is the first six-lane expressway in Bangladesh with service lanes on both sides.

Finally, the project was completed in the first week of this month. It has 44 culverts, 19 underpasses, four big bridges, 25 small bridges, five flyovers, two interchange and four railway overpasses. All of these were built at different points in order to ensure uninterrupted vehicular movement on this highway. Bangladesh Army was in charge of its construction. The highway is included in the Asian Highway Corridor. The 24 Engineer Construction Brigade of Bangladesh Army implemented the project under the supervision of Roads and Highways Department.

The 55-km long expressway will ease the travel from Khulna and Barishal divisions to Dhaka and it will definitely play an important role to the growth of national economy of Bangladesh.
