Bangladesh RMG Factories Received Top LEED Certificates


Envoy Textiles, Remi Holdings and Plummy Fashions of Bangladesh are now world’s top Green environment friendly RMG factories in the world. The top three factories has succeeded keeping pace with the growing demand of Green factories across the world. After Rana Plaza building collapse the RMG industries of Bangladesh faced stern criticism worldwide. This achievement has taken the RGM (ready-made garments) industry of the country to a new height.

Now owners of Bangladeshi garment and knitwear factories are now building new green factories and some are converting their factories into green. These green environment friendly factories have higher production, less carbon emission, power, water and gas saving systems. There are more than 30 green factories in Bangladesh and other hundreds are building.

Envoy Textile Limited is the 1st Denim producing green factory in the world; the factory is located in Mymensingh district.  BD Taka 14 billion has been invested to build this environment friendly green factory. The Founder and Chairman of Envoy Group Mr. Kutubuddin Ahmed (L) built this world class denim factory in Mymensingh. This factory has World's First LEED Platinum Certified Denim Manufacturing facility which is currently manufacturing of 100% Export Oriented high quality Denim fabrics.








The Remi Holdings tops as a green garment factory. They have invested BDT 1.4 billion to modernize and make their factory green and environment friendly.






The Plummy Fashion ranks first as a green knitwear factory across the globe, they have invested BDT 2.4 billion to become green and environment friendly.






The LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) provide by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Green Textiles has a certified international recognition. Certificate awarded after fulfilling some criteria’s and requirements. Points need to achieve in different level of certification. The factory building must ensure the highest standard of building construction. This year a total of 79,600 projects from 161 different countries has received LEED certificates. Among them 30 garments, textiles and washing factories in Bangladesh have received this certification.

Prerequisites for LEED certification:
  • Construction materials that create less carbon emission
  • Hi-tech machinery for productions
  • Saving electricity
  • Preserving rainwater
  • Having enough space for constructing other buildings
  • Ensuring housing facilities
  • Schools facilities
  • Bazaars or shopping facilities
  • Bus stands for the workers within 500 square meters of the factory

LEED Platinum Certification winner factories:
In 2012 as a first factory the Vintage Denim Studio received Platinum certificate. Envoy Textiles of Envoy Group has a Platinum Certificate. Plummy Fashions has an LEED Platinum. Genesis Fashions and Genesis Washing received Platinum Certificate. SQ Group has three Platinum Certificates for three of its factories-SQ Birichina, SQ Collblanc and SQ Celsius-2.

LEED Gold Certification winner factories:
Shruti Textile Mills achieved the Gold Certificate. Osman Interlinings in Dhaka EPZ received Gold Certificate. Tosrifa Industries of Northern Tosrifa Group achieved the Gold Certificate. Two factories of BITOPI Group have achieved Gold Certificate; these are Remi Holdings and Tarasima Apparels. SQ Celsius has a Gold Certificate. Regency Garments (unit-1) of Chittagong EPZ has a Gold Certificate. The AKH ECO Apparels factory of AKH Group has a Gold Certificate. Sri Lankan firm Univogue has a garment factory in Chittagong EPZ and achieved Gold certification. Epyllion Style Factory of Epyllion Group in Gazipur also received the Gold. Viyellatex in Gazipur has a Gold Certificate. Four factories of Sri Lanka’s Kenpark in Chittagong and Karnafuli EPZ received the LEED’s gold certificates. Another Sri Lankan factory named Hela Clothing was awarded gold certificate by LEED. Valtex International BD Ltd also obtained gold certification from LEED.

LEED Silver Certification winner factories:
Epic Garments Manufacturing Factory of Epic Group has an LEED Silver Certificate; the factory is in Adamjee EPZ in Narayanganj. Other two factories of the same group have Silver Certificates also, Epic Group is a Hong Kong based company. The Saiham Knit Composite in Habiganj has an LEED Silver.

Environment-friendly Green factories have been established in the country. These factories fulfill buyer’s demands with the best compliance standards of the world. Now 150 factories are being readied as environment-friendly ones. That will increase confidence of buyers in our clothing industries. It will expand business as well.
