Pallabi Mirpur to Airport Uttara in 10 Minutes | New Flyover

It will take only 10 minutes to reach at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Mirpur. The road getting ready on the way to Uttara, Banani and Gulshan-bound passengers, who are suffering due to long traffic congestions in the morning and evening. There will be flyover of 2,435-meter-long in this route which will looks like English alphabet ‘Y’. Along with this, four lane roads are being widened to six lanes to ease the passenger's journey on the same road. Six bus bay and a separate cycle track are being made.

Apart from Mirpur DOHS area, a new 3.7 Kms road is being constructed, which will go to the new extension part of Uttara and meets the airport area. As a result, Mirpur residents will be able to reach the airport in the fastest and shortest time. Concerned of this project said that if the project does not face any problems and everything is okay, then the construction of these infrastructure will be completed in June 2020 and the 7th flyover of Dhaka City will be used in the capital. Dhaka will be connected to a new dimension. As a result, road communication through Mirpur, Pallabi, Dhaka Cantonment, Uttara and Mohakhali will be easier and better.

After approval of this project in January 2018, the project started on March of that year but the survey was done in 2016. The flyover starting from the ECB Chattar at Kalshi intersection, one end point at near Kalshi Graveyard and another is end point at in Mirpur DOHS area by number 12 in the Sagufta Housing area. In fact, within five years after the construction of Kalshi road, traffic congestion became huge in the morning and evening hours, due to excessive pressure from Uttara-Gulshan-bound passenger vehicles. Last year, as of April 2018, around 86 thousand passenger cars are transported by this road annually. But in the future, DOHS and for its surrounding government housing project, traffic congestion will increase after completion of the Sagufta housing.

The project was taken to increase the road up to Mirpur, from Mirpur to ECB to construct flyovers at Kalshi intersection. For the same reason, the road below the flyover is widening from four lanes to six lanes. In the new extension part of Uttara, a new 3.7 km long adjacent to the DOHS is constructing for the convenience of the dwellers. At the same time, Kalshi Bridge is being expanded. As part of the project, two more public toilets and two police boxes will be built here. Under the Local Government Division, Dhaka North City Corporation and Bangladesh Army jointly are implementing the project.

Of these, the City Corporation Authority has been working in the technical and planning part of the project. But the army 17 ECB (Engineering Construction Battalion) is operating the entire work. It took time to do the work of strengthening the soil of the project area. Expenditure is increasing in this. For this, the project cost has increased to 986 crore taka. Hopefully, if the funding of the project is ok then the construction will be completed by June 2020. And when it’s done, there will be no traffic congestion in this area.

The development work is going on full swing till the main gate of the Mirpur DOHS residential area from Mirpur's ECB Chattar, the main road and the extension of the flyover and road along the main road. Construction workers surrounding these areas are working hard day and night to build special flyovers. For the last one month, huge and heavy equipment has been installed to build the flyover by the main road. In the meantime, after the removal of the infrastructures of these places, the construction of the big pillar was started by digging the soil.

The 17 ECB people and construction workers are working to make the road equal to the ground where the roads are expanded from the DOHS to the ECB complex. The concerned people are working to strengthen the area's soil before constructing the new project's infrastructure which is a very time-consuming and costly job. In addition to the construction of the project, 479 families who had built a house there in Kalshi were legally evicted. However, the families of the housing authorities were rehabilitated nearby.

Thanks a lot,

Subway in Dhaka City | Solution of Traffic Congestion

The plan of the subway in Dhaka city is not limited only in the plan or in paper. As per plan of the Government, the initiative is being implemented and it will be done during this government. Government says the work of the subway project will be started during this government's tenure.

The involved people about this exclusive project said that the present government is going to bring the issue of setting up a subway rail in the capital. The green signal was given from the top level of the government to implement this dream plan. In this government period, there are plans to introduce at least two subway routes in Dhaka city. In the first phase, the government has taken a plan to construct the first and second route of total 48-kilometer long Tongi to Sayedabad and Aminbazar to Sayedabad on the basis of public-private partnership (PPP). The potential cost of building this route can be approximately 8 billion US dollars.

Some major ongoing projects like Padma Bridge, Metro Rail in Dhaka and Ruppur Nuclear Power Plants are no longer a dream; within recent years these mega projects will be reality. From this reality, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has now given priority to setting up a subway in the capital. Prior to the election of 2018, the Prime Minister pledged to launch a subway service in an election rally in Gulshan. She said that if the Awami League returns to power through the election, they will start the subway service to eliminate the annoying traffic congestion in the capital. The World Bank is interested in funding such a project by donor organization to reduce traffic congestion in Dhaka.

After completion of the subway rail, the passenger train will be running around 30 meters below the surface. It will be able to provide about 4 million passengers transport facilities in the city. The present Planning Minister MA Mannan told that the Prime Minister's priority was to get rid of traffic congestion in the capital. The government has also started to scrutinize feasibility for sub-railway services. He said that although it is still in the initial stage, it is going to be implemented from the planning of the sub-rail service in Dhaka city. He also said that when a subway was constructed, a large portion of the population would be able to move under the ground. This will reduce the movement of people above the ground and increase the empty and free space which will be lower off traffic congestion.

The government has approved the feasibility of constructing a subway rail line in Dhaka in July 2018. Spanish company Typsa is examining the feasibility of the project. The company will verify the feasibility of constructing four subway routes in Dhaka at a cost of BDT 220 Crores. Survey work will be done by determining four subway routes in Dhaka. In this regard, the Bridge Division has signed a contract with Typsa in August last year.

Primary selected routes of subway in Dhaka:
  • The first route will be around 32 kilometers in length; it will be from Tongi – Airport – Kakali – Mohakhali – Moghbazar – Paltan – Motijheel Shapla Chattar – Sayedabad, which will be extended to Narayanganj in the future. For this, the potential construction cost is estimated to be US$ 5.66 billion.
  • Secondly, a 16 km long subway line-2 will be from Aminbazar – Gabtali – Shyamoli – Asadgate - New Market – TSC - Ittefaq Moor - Sayedabad. Later it will extend on both sides. The possible construction cost will be US$ 2.87 billion.
  • Thirdly, route-3 will be conducted from Gabtali – Mirpur 1 – Mirpur 10 – Kakoli – Gulshan 2 – Natun Bazar - Rampura TV Station – Khilkhet – Motijheel Shapla Chattar - Jagannath Hall - Keraniganj.
  • Under route-4, the probability route of the subway will be from Rampura TV station – Niketan – Tejgaon - Sonargaon Hotel – Panthapath - Dhanmondi 27 – Jigatala – Azimpur - Lalbagh - Sadarghat.

The length of root-3 and root-4 has not finalized yet. The underground depth of these subways will be from 20 to 40 meters. Sophisticated Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) will be used to construct these subways. So, during the implementation of the project, people will not suffer due to dig on the soil.

Study shows that the expected life time for flyovers is around 50 to 75 years but for subways the short-term period is around 100 to 125 years. The famous London's centennial subway is still active. The executive director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Khandker Anwarul Islam said, "As per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we have gone a long way in building the sub-railway." Chief Engineer of Bridge Authority Kazi Md. Ferdous said, "The work of verification of the construction of subway in Dhaka has already started by the Spanish company Typsa".

Various organizations such as BRTA, MRT make discussions together with the undergoing coordination of the subway project. The subway stations will be near to the metro rail stations so that people can easily travel from the subway to the metro rail and from the metro rail to the subway station easily. The project to conduct survey of feasibility study of subway in Dhaka City was a priority project under the seventh Five-year plan.

Bangladesh will be a developed country soon; there must be a subway in the capital of the country.

Thanks a lot for reading.

Export Products from Bangladesh is Increasing

After independence, the first generation of industrialists helped in the development of small and medium industries in Bangladesh. Now the second generation entrepreneur group has been working to develop heavy industries in the country. Heavy industries are the main wheel to start journey towards a developed nation, now Bangladesh is walking in the same path. But there are big challenges in the big industry. If the investors do not get proper government support and necessary infrastructural and other facilities, the industrial sector is affected. The government will have to ensure necessary assistance for big industrial development.

For a decade of independence, the country's industrial sector rely on few small-scale industries, such as Jute, Paper mills, Sugar mills, Handloom factories, and cottage industries etc. The jute mill or paper industry was all under government control. Now, almost all of these sectors are moving ahead to private companies. Bashundhara Group has established Asia's largest paper factory in the country. The Paper Mills of this group are exporting paper goods abroad after meet the domestic demand. Private entrepreneurs are also in the process of refining sugar. They are now seeking to export the refined sugar abroad.

According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data:
  • Total export earnings in the 2008-09 fiscal years were 15.5 billion US dollars. Of this, the RMG industries contributed 12 billion dollars. Only 3 billion dollars came from other sectors.
  • After a decade now, the export income of the other sectors, except for the garment, has doubled. The export earnings in RMG sector exceeded 30 billion dollars in fiscal year 2017-18. Export revenue from other sectors was 6 billion dollars which is more than BDT 50,000 Crores.
  • The number of products exported was 27 by 2008-2008 fiscal years. The engineering quotas mentioned only two types of products, bicycles and iron chains.
  • After one decade, the number of exports products of the company has doubled in the financial year 2017-18. Renewed engineering products include Iron Steel, Copper wire, Stainless steel wire and other engineering materials.
  • Slowly new products are being added to the export sector. Alongside the garment industry, light engineering, medicine, footwear, paper, cement and software industries are contributing to the increase in export earnings. Diversification in the export sector is increasing.
  • A decade ago, there was no information on Paper and Cement export in the EPB list. These two products have emerged as the export target for the EPB. In the last fiscal year, the export of paper and paper based products has increased to 75 million US dollars.
  • Export revenue of cement is about 13 million dollars. Bangladesh is now self-contained in the production of cement. The country is now producing 30 million tons of cement per year and the production capacity is 60 million tons.

Even a few years ago, there was a need to rely on foreign materials to build large infrastructure, now there are many building materials are available in the country. The mega project ‘Padma Bridge’ is being built by domestic brand cement. Not only that, the government has made a deal with local cement companies, to construct Rooppur nuclear power plant, another mega project of nearly BDT one lac crores.

The textile and garment industries being built by private enterprises have stood as the pole of the economy over the last few decades. Bangladesh is moving ahead in other industries as well as progress of medicine in the private sector.

The progress of the industrial sector is also affecting the country's gross domestic product (GDP). According to the estimation of the Bureau of Statistics, GDP growth will stand at 8.13 percent in the current fiscal year. In the last fiscal year, the GDP growth rate was 7.86 percent. If this is the case then final GDP will exceed 8 percent for the first time. The government policy-makers believe that the industry has played a major role mainly due to the 8 percent growth in GDP growth in just last three years, and the breakdown of the 6 percent circle.

The growth of industrial sector has increased in size. Agriculture, Industry and Service - The growth of these three sectors is added to the GDP. In the agricultural sector, at the end of the current fiscal year, the growth will be 3.25 percent, which was 4.9 percent of the last fiscal year. The growth in the services sector is 6.50 percent, which was 6.9 percent in the last fiscal year. Industry sector growth will be 13.02 percent, which was 12.66 percent in the last fiscal year. It is not impossible to achieve double-digit growth in the next three years of 2020 due to the pace of production being achieved.
