Working to build a Better and Safer Dhaka | DMP

Dear readers,
How are you ? Happy New Year !
Today I am going to write a little about the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), they are always working hard to to build a Better and Safer Dhaka city. The post contain a little history of the DMP and a little description about all the divisions. Most info of the post has been taken from the official web portal of Dhaka Metropolitan Police - DMP. So if you want to know more details about the DMP please visit their website.

A little about DMP:

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) came into existence on the 1st February, 1976. Mr. E.A. Chowdhury, the first Commissioner and Mr. A.S.M. Shahjahan (later on made IGP, Secretary and Advisor to the Caretaker Government) was the first Deputy Commissioner (Head Quarter) jointly toiled at setting-up an effective and professional Metropolitan Police service. Afterwards, Mr. A.M. M. Aminur Rahman and Mr. A. R. Khandokar shouldered the responsibilities to shape this organization as dignified one.

When DMP was formed, it started its course with 12 police stations along with 6000 forces in the year 1976. The population of Dhaka City stood to be less than 40,00,000 when DMP started working after the formation. This figure has almost tripled by now and could be more than that.

The Metropolitan area itself increased in shape and size year after year exceeding the area of the city. So, the increased populations and land of Dhaka must of course, call for extends quality services. Hence the world is moving so fast in the 21st century, so modernization and improvement of DMP is a demand of the time.

This concept led to reshaping DMP in respect of force size, modernization and organizational structure, the big step towards materializing this process was to establish 41 police stations instead of 12. The rest of proposed 18 police stations will be established as soon as possible. A consensus has already been made. A memo was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs approving 1378 new posts which include-2 Additional Commissioners (DIG), 5 Joint Commissioners (Additional DIG), 11 Deputy Commissioners (SP), 24 Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADC), 45 Senior Assistant Commissioners (Sr. ASP), 44 Assistant Commissioners (ASP), 88 Inspectors, 85  Sub-Inspector, 900 Assistant Sub-Inspectors. At present total strength of Dhaka Metropolitan Police personnel (all ranks and status) are more than 23,000.
