Rapid Action Battalion | RAB | Fight Against Terrorism


Dear readers,

The topic of this post is about the law and order force of the Government of Bangladesh called Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). Bangladesh is one of the developing countries of the world. In the upcoming future this country is going to make her own place in the top 20. One of the impediments to the development of Bangladesh is: its unstable law and order situation. At the back drop of this unstable situation the Government of Bangladesh felt the necessity to organize a permanent special force under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Home Affairs in order to make the society crime free and stabilize the law and order situation.

Finally with the blessing of Honorable Prime minister and under the close supervision of the Honorable State Minister for Ministry of Home Affairs a special Force named RAPID ACTION BATTALION FORCES (RAB) was formally emerged on 26 March, 2004. This force started its operational journey at a limited scale from 14 April, 2004.



Mission of the Force:
Prevent crime and apprehend criminals.   

Motto of the Force: 
Motto of Rapid Action Battalion Forces is Bangladesh is My Pride.  

The capabilities of RAB forces are:

1. Performing regular duty in any situation related to internal security of the country.
2. Recovery of unauthorized arms, ammunition's, explosives and such other harmful materials.
3. Apprehension of armed gangs of criminals.
4. Assisting other law enforcing agencies for maintaining law and order situation in the country.
5. Intelligence gathering in respect of crimes and criminal activities.
6. Investigation of any offense on the direction of the government.
7. Such other duties as the government may, from time to time, assign.

At present there are 12 battalions in the whole country, these are:

  • Rapid Action Battalion-1 (Dhaka)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-2 (Dhaka)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-3 (Dhaka)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-4 (Dhaka)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-5 (Rajshahi)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-6 (Khulna)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-7 (Chittagong)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-8 (Barisal)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-9 (Sylhet)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-10 (Dhaka)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-11 (Narayanganj)
  • Rapid Action Battalion-12 (Sirajganj)
